How do you respond to a parent who criticizes you unfairly? A coworker who spreads untrue rumors to get you fired? A teacher who rides you unmercifully? The usual response to such mistreatment is"get mad and get even". But according to John Bevere, retribution and vengeance are not your prerogatives. They are God's.
It goes against your every natural impulse to watch your abusers seemingly get off scot-free. But if you leave justice in God's hands, He promises:
* He will defend and vindicate you.
* He will bountifully bless you.
* You will grow in character and develop spiritual muscles.
Being mistreated, then, is not a cause for anger or self-defense. Rather it is a cause for "dancing a jig, shouting for joy, and partying in the soul". When you give up your "right" to square things up and instead let God take charge, you put justice in the right hands. It frees you from the acid of resentment and brooding. And it opens your heart to receive more power for a transformed life than you can possibly imagine.
